Modern Times A History of the World From the 1920s to the Year 2000 eBook Paul Johnson Reviews

If you are already a Paul Johnson fan, this book will not surprise you for its depth, insight and span of world history. I either missed World History or at least I wasn't paying attention to the level I did in this book. Things that I missed in class The V1's of Hitler were destroying 20,000 homes per day during the London attacks, talk about weapons of mass destruction! I missed the whole understanding of the importance of the East/culture to Germany versus the West/Civilization. It appears everyone but me understood by the end of December 1941 that Germany and Japan would not/could not win the wars they had started. Stalin was one of Hitler's biggest fans. Stalin also feared Hitler the most. It is a very humbling, insightful trip through history.
it is not just easy to read but enjoyable and makes our recent history come alive plus providing an understanding of what is happening now. I have given many copies to friends as gifts and hope they value the book the way I do
Not easy to read, but maybe exact therefore the best book about the bloody history of the 20th century. To understand the connections between different historical events, to see, how the WWI destroyed a morale, which slowly developed for centuries and how catastrofic the influence of this destroyment in fact was.
As usual Paul Johnson's writing is clear and informative, knowledgable and engaging. His perspectives are wide yet coherent. You don't want the book to end and wish he would update it. We want his comments on the last 30 years. A comprehensive, engaging read.
Was able to follow a bit of my family's general history that I discovered late in life!
There is not much else to say except that this is real History. Of course you need some background on the facts because this book focuses on interpretation and the sense of human actions. Absolutely recommended for understanding our present and our future, and to act accordingly.
